Big Gay Sing Trafalgar Square

The Trafalgar Square stage - pretty in pink!

On Saturday July 21st 2012, I was Musical Director of Fruitvox’s Big Gay Sing, a singalong event to thousands in Trafalgar Square that served as the culmination of the LGBTQ contribution to the Cultural Olympiad, the arts festival surrounding the London 2012 Olympic Games. It really was that pink! And here is the pretty incredible view from the stage.

The view from the stage, taken on my iPhone.

Produced by Serious, the event included LGBTQ singers from across the UK, celebrity hosts Rhona Cameron and Russell Grant and a top notch band, including some of my favo(u)rite musicians. [I have now been in the US for so long, I have no idea how to spell favo(u)rite any more!]

Perhaps the most fun part was working with singer Daniel Boys, particularly on the tricky ‘The Wizard and I’ from ‘Wicked’ - a fantastic voice, incredibly efficient in rehearsal and such a nice, humble guy too. It was also great to collaborate again with my old friend Andrea Brown, now Head of Music and Drama at Morley College, choreographer Stuart Burrows and Martin Brophy, who is the mastermind of Fruitvox.
